ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
It is necessary to consult the vehicle's workshop manual to perform specialized service operations on this part.
If you do not have the service manual or do not have the necessary skills to install this part, it is recommended that you consult a specialized technician.
Read and follow all instructions carefully and heed all warnings and alerts cited in the vehicle manual.
Airbag systems are subject to the explosives legislation in force in each country. The following safety instructions must be followed when handling them:
-Stop the engine, disconnect the battery, and wait for the electronic computer memory to be erased (at least 10 minutes). Start the engine and check that the instrument panel does not turn on.
-Disconnect the airbag module before any intervention on the vehicle's electrical circuit (ohmmeter, measuring instruments, etc.).
-Handle the airbag modules with caution (avoid impacts, keep the opening clear, and store the airbag modules facing upwards).
-Never disassemble the module or connect a measuring device to the module itself.
-The airbag ring must be installed and removed from the center position (the tires must be in the straight-ahead position) and the steering wheel must be completely centered.
The ring is supplied in the center position and is secured with a pin. The pin must be released after installation, releasing the spring.
The spring must not be released before installation under any circumstances; otherwise, if released before assembly, the spring will be distorted from the start, and it will very likely come loose during the operation and become unusable.
If re-centering is required, follow the instructions below (applicable to most references):
Turn the rotor counterclockwise (left) to the stop. Turn approximately 3.0 turns clockwise (right) until the marks on the rotor are aligned.
- SPIRAL THREAD AIRBAG REEL CONTACTOR RING -
The spiral cable connects the rigid steering column to the movable steering wheel. It ensures communication between the airbag control unit and the gas generator during the steering wheel's rotational motion. The conductive sheet is wound in such a way that it is capable of following the rotational motion of 2.5 turns in each direction.
It is important to be very careful when installing or removing this spiral cable. Ensure the steering is in the center position and that the wheels are also straight ahead. If the spiral cable has been removed, it cannot be rewound.
