ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

It is necessary to refer to the vehicle workshop manual to carry out the specialised service operations for this part.

If the service manual is not available or if you do not have the necessary skills to install this part, it is recommended that you call in a specialised technician.

Read and follow all instructions carefully and heed all warnings and cautions in the vehicle manual.

Airbag systems are subject to the explosives legislation in force in each country. The following safety instructions must be observed when handling them:

-Stop the engine, disconnect the battery and wait for the electronic calculator memory to be cleared (at least 10 minutes). Start the engine and check that the instrument panel does not light up.

-Disconnect the airbag module before any intervention on the vehicle's electrical circuit (ohmmeter, measuring instruments, etc.)

-Handle the airbag modules with care (avoid knocks, keep the opening space free and store the airbag modules upwards)

-Never disassemble the module or connect a measuring device to the module itself.

Installation and removal of the airbag ring must be carried out in the central position (tyre direction must be in the straight-ahead position) and the steering wheel in the fully centred position.

The ring is supplied in the central position and is secured with a pin, the pin must be released after fitting by releasing the spring.

The spring must not be released before fitting under any circumstances, otherwise, if it is released before fitting, the spring will be distorted beforehand and is very likely to come loose during the operation and become unusable.

If recentering is required, follow the instructions below (valid for most references):

Turn the rotor counterclockwise (left) as far as it will go. Turn the rotor approx. 3.0 turns clockwise (right) until the rotor marks are aligned.

Spiral cable

The spiral cable represents the connection between the rigid steering column and the movable steering wheel. It ensures communication between the airbag control unit and the gas generator during the rotational movement of the steering wheel. The conductive foil is wound in such a way that it is able to follow the rotational movement of 2.5 turns in each direction.

It is important to be very careful when mounting or dismounting this spiral cable. It must be ensured that the steering is in the central position and that the wheels are also straight. If the spiral cable has been disassembled, it cannot be rewound.
